Book Review: The Bad Guys #9 – The Big Bad Wolf by Aaron Blabey

8/10

After being hit by an alien ray, Mr. Wolf has grown to epic proportions and is destroying the city! The rest of the Bad Guys and the International League of Heroes must now juggle a rampaging wolf as well as the alien invasion that is still threatening to end the world. Can the Bad Guys stop their friend from destroying the city and his own reputation or is this the end of Mr. Wolf and the Bad Guys?

This book doesn’t disappoint. the character growth of Mr. Snake is very obvious, and the bond between the team is great. Add in the International Leage of Heroes, and this adventure is one you don’t want to miss. If you loved the rest of the series, this book is a must-read. With fantastic illustrations, lots of action, and so much heart that it’s almost painful, this book is one of my favorites. I can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with Mr. Snake and Mr. Wolf.

Book Review: Addicted to Busy – Recovery for the Rushed Soul by Brady Boyd

10/10

Busyness seems to be the curse of the modern era. Between technological advances that put more information in your hand than ever before and the fact that we can simply keep working even when we’re no longer at work, we are constantly bombarded with more and more. But the pace of life has increased to a breakneck speed, and more and more people are crashing, including well-meaning Christians who believe that they must constantly do. How can we escape the never-ending, ever-growing, all-consuming to do list that shouts to be done? Believe it or not, God offers the answer.

In Addicted to Busy, a pastor who has struggled with busyness lays out his story to teach the importance of rest. God actually commands rest in the Bible, and in doing so he calls us to deny ourselves. In our fallen world, we constantly fill our lives with things to ‘do’ while not taking the time to ‘be.’ But we are human beings, not human doings, and rest is a key feature in being.

This book is fantastic. Instead of a list of do’s and don’ts, Addicted to Busy lays out why rest is important. Other than a few broad guidelines for Sabbath rest, the author doesn’t hammer in thou-shalts and thou-shalt-nots. The best definition of rest I have ever heard of is contained in these pages, and I recommend it to everybody who has ever struggled with being too busy. If you’re desperate to slow down and rest, the challenges in this book are worth visiting and looking over. And maybe linger for a while. Because while the world commands you to be busy, rest is commanded by God.

Book Review: But You Don’t Look Autistic at All by Bianca Toeps, Translated by Fay MacCorquodale-Smith

9/10

Bianca Toeps tells her story of being an autistic woman who, in typical fashion, was diagnosed later in life. With warmth and insight from being perceived as different throughout her whole childhood, Bianca shines a light on her own, female autistic traits and how they have affected her life in every way. A fantastic look into the mind of somebody with autism who is taking a stand for change for the better in a world of neurotypicals. Recommended if you want to hear about autism from an autistic person.

Book Reviews: The Bad Guys #8 – Superbad by Aaron Blabey

8/10

Somehow, the Bad Guys have gone from time traveling to gaining superpowers in book eight of the series. Unfortunately for them, they have no idea how to use their new powers! Can the International League of Heroes help them to learn their powers in time to save the earth from Dr. Marmalade and the alien invaders? Or will Dr. Marmalade completely take over the earth and destroy the Bad Guys?

Somehow we’ve gone from saving chickens to facing aliens and dinosaurs and now we’ve arrived at superpowers. No idea how, but I’m not complaining! The characters have gone through some development and there are several new characters we’re introduced to from the League of Heroes. And the ending of this book has me excited for the next one. If you enjoyed the other books, this one is definitely worth reading!

Book Review: Frozen Beauty by Lexa Hillyer

8/10

The three Malloy sisters are well-known in Devil’s Lake, and they are so different from each other. But they all have secrets and when Kit Malloy is found dead in their friend’s truck in the midst of suspicious circumstances, their world is thrown into chaos. With their friend Boyd in jail and Lilly Malloy claiming to have seen him that night, Tessa is still sure that Boyd is innocent. Piecing together the past, Tessa must unravel the secrets that Kit has kept from everybody. Can she prove that Boyd is innocent? Or does she really not know the boy next door?

This book has amazing characters and an engaging plot. With splashes of romance, the mystery of what happened to Kit Malloy takes twists and turns as we experience the world Before and Now from the points of view of several characters. The switching between past and present is so interesting and is such a contrast. If you’re a fan of mystery with drama and romance, this is the book for you.

Book Review: The Bad Guys #7 – Do-You-Think-He-Saurus? by Aaron Blabey

8/10

After accidentally going back in time while trying to stop an alien invasion, the Bad Guys find themselves surrounded by dinosaurs! Now they have to find a way back to the present day or else the world will be overtaken by Dr. Marmalade and his alien friends. Can the Bad Guys figure out how to get back, or will they be stuck in the past with a bunch of hungry velociraptors? And how could this series get any stranger?

This installment brings a whole new challenge to the Bad Guys. After what happened with Mr. Snake in the previous book, it’s nice to see him get a surge of energy. The story somehow gets better and weirder with every book, and the way this one ended was so surprising, but in a good way. I can’t wait to see what’s next. If you’ve enjoyed the series so far, this book will make you laugh just as much.

Book Reviews: War Room by Chris Fabry

10/10

Realtor Elizabeth Jordan seems to have it all. She has a wonderful house, a great job, and a beautiful daughter. But below the surface, things aren’t so well. With her marriage on the rocks, she’s constantly fighting her husband Tony, who seems to only care about his career. And when his eyes start wandering, Elizabeth doesn’t quite know what to do.

After meeting Clara, an elderly woman who wants to sell her house, Elizabeth finds not only a client but also a friend. Clara is like nobody she’s ever met before, and yet she’s drawn to her. As Clara begins to share her life experiences with prayer, Elizabeth begins to crave to be close to God, too. But things aren’t going so smoothly, and her faith will be tested like never before.

This book is fantastic. I saw the movie first, and when I saw there was a novelization of it, I just had to have it. The movie is great for what it’s worth, but the novel allows you to really get to know the characters better. If you enjoyed the movie, or you just want to read a powerful book that will keep you invested in the characters, this is the one for you. Prayer is an important part of being a Christian, and yet it is tragically overlooked and undervalued, including in my own life. This book is a wonderful story where the reader can join in with one family as they encounter a prayer warrior who touches their lives and shows them all that can be gained through prayer.
