Debate Prologue

It all started when He came into my life. Pause. Rewind. He? Capitalized in the middle of the sentence? Oh no, you say. She believes. She believes in that horrible, child-killing, world-destroying God of the Bible. Call the media! Call the principal! You know what? Why not call the cops? That’s where it’s all heading anyways. There is no room in a free thinking country for close-minded, hateful, propaganda-spewing Christians who think that their way is right above all others. Don’t you know that everybody is right? Everybody but them, of course.

I have a question for you. You know when you were told as a child “two wrongs don’t make a right?” Well what do ten different rights make? A culture that no longer believes that there is such a thing as morals. Everybody makes their own. So then why, my friends, do we still punish murderers? It was right in their eyes. Oh, my mistake. We only punish some murderers! But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s take a little journey.

I had a standard childhood. No specific sets of beliefs were pushed on me. I dabbled a little in different religions in my hometown. Then we moved. Being the new girl in high school is horrible. The guys are checking you out, the girls are sizing you up, and for the first couple of days you just kind of hover around the edges. Then a small girl, shorter than me for crying out loud, came and invited me to church. With nothing else to do, I went.  It changed my life.

I saw, for the first time, what a terrible person I was when I saw the Ten Commandments on a poster after hearing a guy teach about the cross and what this Jesus fellow did for me so I could know him. That started this whole thing. Because when I get into something, I am totally committed to it, so I was all about these new beliefs. Thus started the showdown of the century. With one of my classmates. I was determined to defend the Bible against all threats. And you know what? I probably didn’t handle it right. You decide.
